A Life Saved By Poetry

The following is the email letter that I received a week after sending out one of my books. I sent it in an act of faith, before I had received payment. Somehow, I felt that it was needed. The name has been omitted to protect the privacy of this individual. Additional verification may be provided, should it be required before publication.

“Bart, I got your book and I love it. I will send the money Monday. I just want to tell you a story first. There was this woman. She had everything in life, cars, diamonds, money but never any love. Her parents were bereft of emotion and never had a kind word to say and her oldest son... long story, very cruel. May 12 her daughter would have been 21 but see was born 4 months early and died after 21 days. On Mother's day that was a day to forget, she took 5 Valium and went into the desert to die. The anguish and pain was more than she could take. She had that day’s mail and opened while the Valium took affect. She read from Bartoluciano’s book and her heart soared and her soul changed. She looked up Bart’s number in California and called, but misdialed.... She started to look at what she did have and not at the many many things that she didn’t have and couldn’t change, big part there.

Well, she urped and urped and then fell asleep and after one day and a half, only her youngest son had called and wanted her home. To throw away a life when it’s so precious, when one has had so many illnesses and made it through, there is a plan. She should not have forsaken her young son.
She lives! She thanks you! She wants you to know that your book was the catalyst that kept her alive. I, (name omitted), thank you so very much, your soul has touched me.
How do you thank someone for a gift such as this?

All my love, a lifelong friend!”
